Dairy giant Lactalis is planning to expand production at a plant in France, which it runs as part of a venture with Nestle.

Lactalis plans to spend EUR40m (US$55.5m) at the facility in Saint-Martin-des-Entrée, in Normandy, according to local council officials.

The plant makes cream and ultra-fresh products predominantly for the UK market. The project is expected to lead to the creation of 113 jobs.

A spokesperson for Lactalis said confirmed the company had an “investment project” for the plant but added: “Until these plans are finalised we can’t go into detail. We will probably be in a position to say more a couple of weeks from now.”

Local reports that Lactalis is also set to invest over EUR40m in expanding a plant, in Craon in Normandy that makes Chaussée aux Moines cheese and infant milk under the Picot brand.
