Lactalis has signed a draft agreement with Netherlands’ VanDrie Group for the sale of its veal processing subsidiary, Tendriade.

The value of the deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, has not been disclosed.

Based in Brittany, with a second site in southeast France, Tendriade has an annual turnover of EUR230m. It employs 670 staff and processes 200,000 calves annually supplied from 200 farms.

Supermarkets are the main outlet for its products, sold under the Tendriade brand.

On the reasons for the sale a Tendriade spokesman said: “Lactalis is looking to re-focus its business on its core activity – milk in all its forms.

“Tendriade’s activity will continue to develop as part of the Van Drie Group which is the market leader in Europe.”
