French cooked charcuterie specialist Madrange is to axe 137 permanent and 102 temporary posts out of a total workforce, according to a staff union source.

The restructuring at Madrange, which was acquired by French food holdings group Financière Turenne Lafayette (FTL) earlier this year, will also see a pork cuts facility closed.

Unions had been informed of the cutbacks at a works council meeting held earlier this month.

In 2010, Limoges-based Madrange axed 135 posts as part of a EUR4m restructuring programme.

When contacted by just-food, a Madrange spokesperson declined to comment on the union claims while no-one at FTL could be reached.

The union source said the works council had also been informed that Madrange’s true financial situation had not been disclosed when it was acquired by FTL. The source claimed EUR3m was missing from the figures presented to the buyer by Madrange’s former management team.
