Citing negative results last year and a poor start to 2013, a company official confirmed the closures in the Brittany towns of Poullaouen and Chateaugiron would take effect in the first quarter of 2014.

Around 60 posts will be offered to redundant workers at another plant in Brittany where 17 administrative posts are also to be axed. Another Brittany plant, in Chateaulin, is unaffected by the cutbacks.

“Everything was decided very quickly. It’s a bitter blow but we are determined to fight to obtain decent severance terms,” a member of the works council said.
