UK retailer Marks and Spencer has remained tight-lipped over claims it is looking to acquire a batch of stores in France from retail giant Casino.

M&S is said to be looking at outlets in six different locations, according to local industry website LSA.fr.

An M&S spokesperson, however, declined to confirm the reports. “We are looking for further opportunities to expand our offer in France but we are unable to comment on speculation regarding future plans.”

Last month, M&S signed an agreement with French newsagent Relay to open around ten stores in and around Paris by 2018. The first outlet is scheduled to open next summer.

M&S relaunched its business in France in 2011, a decade after it quit the market. The company, which currently has four food stores in Paris, will brand the new outlets under the M&S Food banner.
