Masterfoods (Mars) is to shed 243 staff in France as part of a pan-European restructuring programme implemented by the group which will see 1,070 jobs out of a total of 11,000 axed in response to flagging sales.

The company is cutting back on staff numbers at four production units in France including the plant at Haguenau in eastern France, which makes chocolate bars and where 74 jobs are to go.

Other French plants, manufacturing petfoods and iced confectionery bars, are also affected while the cutbacks will also extend to the group’s IT services subisidiary, ISI which is also located at Haguenau

Masterfoods employs just over 3,200 staff in France.
