Frozen chip maker McCain Foods is investing EUR42m (US$55.7m) in the construction of a refrigerated warehouse in Harnes, France, in a bid to rationalise its logistics operations.
Work is already underway on the facility, which is scheduled to enter service in the first half of 2010, creating 50 jobs, the managing director of McCain France, Christophe Rigo, told just-food.
“Given the volume of stock we will be able to house under one roof, this warehouse will have a pan-European reach, serving markets in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece,” he said.
The state-of-the-art facility will have a total capacity of 65,000 pallettes.
McCain France’s production plant in Harnes will be connected to the warehouse via a tunnel while a shuttle service running from a second plant in the vicinity, at Bethune, will also supply the warehouse.
