Much of the rise is attributed to the absence of weighty charges linked to changeover to the euro that pulled down profits in 2000, as well strong synergies arising from the group’s alliance with hypermarket group Casino Guichard-Perrachon.
Operating profit rose by 40% to €137.5m from €98.3m the previous year, on turnover up 63% from €3.83bn to €3.59bn.
