Nestlé is to axe up to 140 jobs in France after deciding to restructure its production of frozen foods and ice cream in the country.

Nestlé Grand Froid, a subsidiary of Nestlé France, said the cuts would come as a result of the re-organisation of its two production units in Beauvais, north of Paris.

“Staff representatives were informed earlier this week of the company’s proposals and these will now be the subject of negotiations,” a spokesperson told just-food. She added that the jobs to be cut will be shared out more or less equally between frozen foods and ice cream production.

The re-organisation of the Beauvais site will create a single entity with management regrouping the two production sites, which currently employ 742 staff.

Nestlé will offer 162 workers voluntary redundancy through early retirement and also plans to recruit around 30 staff to new posts.
