The market demand for fowl increased dramatically during 2000 as the BSE crisis swept across Europe, and by the fourth quarter of the year, figures show that it had rose by 14%.
Duck production saw the highest increase during the year, gaining 6%. Meanwhile, turkey production and guinea-fowl production both increased by 4.5%, while chicken production rose by just 1%.
