The CFDT union told just-food today (1 February) that, while it was too early to have exact figures, strike action was expected at least 400 sites across the country.

France’s three main unions, the CFDT, the CGT and FO, today called their retail members to participate in a joint action.

The call comes a day after national negotiations with the retailers’ association FCD restarted. As well as pay, the talks centre on Sunday working.

For many staff, while they are paid at the national minimum wage, Sunday working becomes an obligation rather than a choice. “Many workers don’t have any other choice but to supposedly ‘volunteer’ for Sunday shifts,” said Michele Chay of the CGT.
