Staff at struggling French pork processor Gad have backed improved redundancy terms and lifted picket lines outside the company’s premises.

Management and unions had agreed a deal a week ago but it was rejected by workers when put to a vote.

However, Gad said yesterday an improved offer, including a doubling of the planned compensation payment to redundant workers, was accepted.

Last month, a French court gave the green light to a rescue plan for Gad. The strategy involved around 900 job cuts, which triggered angry protests outside its two abattoirs, one of which is set to close.
