Unilever-owned ice cream producer, Miko, is investing almost €30m (US$37.1m) in a temperature-controlled distribution hub at St Dizier, in eastern France, as part of a strategy to rationalise its logistics in Europe.

Miko’s logistics operations are currently spread over four sites and these will be reduced to two with the new hub, the other site being in Lyon which serves southern France.

The running of the hub, which will have a capacity of 31,000 pallets, is set to be outsourced to a logistics specialist following an international tender.

Miko produces 100 million litres of ice cream annually including the Carte d’Or and Cornetto brands.
