General Mills’ Yoplait yoghurt business plans to launch its Liberté brand in France under a different name – Yopa – next year.

Yoplait acquired Liberté, a brand that originated in Canada, in 2010 and the product is now available in eight markets, including the US and the UK.

The company is rolling out the yoghurt in France, it said, to provide consumers with a a dessert after dinner.

Yoplait said the yoghurt category was “losing the share of stomach at that time of consumption”. It added: “Producers must come up with a new response for consumers.”

Yopa will be available in a pack of four pots from January, sold in a range of six low-fat and zero-fat lines.
