French cooperative Groupe Cavac has acquired local frozen-food specialist Atlantique Alimentaire for an undisclosed sum.

Cavac, based in La Roche-sur-Yon in western France, said the acquisition is in line with its diversification strategy.

Atlantique Alimentaire, based in La Rochelle in south-west France, was previously owned by CookUp Solutions. It specialises in frozen deli products such as pies, quiches and pizzas. Its products are sold through retail and foodservice channels.

It has an annual turnover of more than EUR30m (US$34.1m) and employs more than 160 people. Its staff and management are being retained post-deal.

Cavac pointed out it has formed a network of agri-food SMEs, either by acquisition or through equity investments.

“Olvac, Bioporc, Biofournil, Les P’tits Amoureux, Catel Roc, all these companies are located within an hour drive around La Roche-sur-Yon and directly or indirectly use raw materials from farmer members of the cooperative,” it said.

“As such, Atlantique Alimentaire already used local raw materials such as flour from a flour mill supplied by the cooperative.”

Cavac said its objectives when acquiring companies or investing in them is to look for levers of growth and added value that benefit the group and indirectly benefit the cooperative’s farmers.

The company’s activities span organic meat, eggs. cereals and dry vegetables.
