Valentin Traiteur, a French producer of pastries, ready meals, pizzas and quiches, is expanding its domestic production.

The Loire-based company has invested EUR10.5m (US$11.7m) to build a new factory in Rives, about an hour north east of Lyon and two hours from the company’s main production facility in Mably.

The new plant is due to open this summer and will specialise in the production of ready meals, pizzas and quiches.

Asked about Valentin Traiteur’s international expansion plans, the company confirmed it was studying plans for an expansion into Canada but refused to make any further comment on timelines or investments.

A statement issued before Christmas, signed by Valentin Traiteur’s group president, Emmanuel Brochot, made no mention of Canada, but said its new French facility was part of a “permanent growth” strategy.

The new facility in Rives will add 50 new jobs to the to an existing workforce of 250. The factory will cover 5,500 square metres and will absorb a smaller existing 3,500 square metre factory in nearby Voreppe.
