French family-owned chocolate and biscuit maker Groupe Buton is in talks to buy local chocolate supplier Monbana.

Buton, which already owns French chocolate business Réauté Chocolat, is in discussions with Monbana’s president, Yves Guattari, to acquire the business, which is based in Mayenne in north-west France. Réauté Chocolat, also located in Mayenne, was bought by Buton in 2015.

“The integration of Monbana with Réauté Chocolat within the confectionery division is part of an external growth strategy for the chocolate and confectionery segment,” Buton said in a statement. This operation represents a real opportunity for growth and development for each of the two Mayennese companies, complementary on the chocolate market.”

Buton and Monbana have given themselves a month to “finalise their discussions”, the statement, issued on Thursday (29 June), read.
