UK family-run baking firm Country Style Foods has bought the former Jus-Rol production facility in the English town of Berwick-upon-Tweed from General Mills.
General Mills announced the closure of the Jus-Rol plant, which manufactured baking mixes, as well as refrigerated and frozen dough products, in January. General Mills said then it planned to consolidate production at the Berwick site into other facilities.
Leeds-based Country Style Foods declined to comment on the deal, but the town’s member of parliament Anne-Marie Trevelyan welcomed the move.
Trevelyan said: “I am delighted that the tradition of manufacturing baking products will continue at the former Jus-Rol site and that employment will continue at the site – this is really good news for Berwick and I look forward to welcoming Country Style Foods to our town.”
Country Style Foods has sites in Peterlee, Grimsby, Flint, Leeds and Stockton in which it produces cakes, pastries and bread, including for Cadbury and Sara Lee.
