Katjes Fassin, the Germany-based confectioner, is to expand the production capacity at the factory housed at its headquarters.

The company is to spend EUR5m (US$6.1m) on the project at the site in the German town of Emmerich am Rhein. Planning has started and Katjes expects the work to be completed early next year.

“For Katjes, this expansion is a strategic investment in its long-term business development,” said managing shareholder Bastian Fassin said. “The expansion of our production plant will provide additional capacity to sustain our growth and further develop our brand globally.”

Katjes Fassin is – alongside its sister company Katjes International – part of the Katjes Group.

Last month, Katjes Fassin invested in UK confectioner Candy Kittens. The Germany company took a “significant” minority stake in the business, which was was co-founded in 2012 by reality TV star and McVitie’s heir Jamie Laing and his business partner Ed Williams.

Last year, Katjes International acquired the Italian arm of Swedish confectioner Cloetta.
