DMK, the Germany-based dairy group, is to take full control of a venture it had been running with UK-based dairy ingredients business Volac.

The companies have secured competition approval for a deal that sees DMK take over the assets of DV Nutrition.

Protein products and permeate manufactured by DV Nutrition will be supplied directly to customers by DMK subsidiary Wheyco, in addition to Volac, which will continue to supply protein products sourced from the DV Nutrition factory in the Dutch town of Hoogeveen.

Alexander Godow, COO of DMK Industry, the co-op’s B2B arm, said the division is “positioning itself as a solution provider for whey and milk-based products”.

Godow added: “The complete takeover of the former joint venture is another building block that enables us to continue to push forward with the targeted expansion of our whey business in value-adding markets.”

DMK Industry is one part of a cooperative that also owns markets products under consumer-facing brands such as Milram and Oldenburger.
