DMK, the Germany-based dairy and baby food business, is in negotiations to acquire assets from local peer Alete.
A spokesperson for DMK, which owns the Humana infant-formula and Sunval baby-food brands, said the company was in talks over “the takeover of the whole sales business of Alete GmbH and German Baby Food GmbH”.
Asked if the discussions meant DMK was looking to buy all of Alete, the spokesperson said: “At this stage, I cannot go into details. The planned acquisition is subject to antitrust clearance, which is why we are unable to provide any more information at this stage.”
DMK’s portfolio takes in areas including fresh dairy, cheese, ice cream and dairy ingredients, as well as infant formula and baby food.
The spokesperson added: “The market for baby food is very important for the dairy cooperative. The DMK group intends to expand its growth strategy for this market and develop further segments.”
German investment firm BWK snapped up Alete from Nestlé in January 2015.
