Authorities in Germany have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into allegations of fraudulent claims for EU sugar export subsidies.
“We are currently investigating the issue,” a spokesperson for Germany’s prosecution service told just-food.
According to reports, the fraudulent claims were made between 2000 and 2006 in connection to payments of up to up to EUR370m (US520.5m).
However, the spokesperson declined to comment further.
