Swiss meat processor Bell Group has acquired German convenience and snack food maker Hoppe for an undisclosed sum.

Bell said today (4 March) that the acquisition would compliment its existing businesses in Germany and its drive to expand in the country’s convenience sector. The company also said that the deal would allow it to capitalise on rising demand in the German market for convenience products.

Hoppe has approximately 100 employees and generates annual sales of around EUR20m (US$27.9m).The group will continue to operate as an independent company under the umbrella of the German Bell subsidiary Zimbo Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH & Co.KG.

Zimbo chairman Christof Queisser will take over the management of Hoppe, while current management – Elisabeth Hoppe and Georg-Michael Hoppe – will continue to be available to ensure a smooth transition, Bell said.

If the transaction is approved by German antitrust regulators, the deal will take effect retroactively to 1 January.
