The sale of the waffles-to-biscuit unit is a result of Stollwerck wanting to focus on its core competence, chocolate.

Andreas Country, managing partner of Griesson, said: “Wurzener’s baked goods complement our range very well.”

Griesson generates annual sales of EUR420m (US$639m) and has four production sites in Germany.

Stollwerck MD Olaf Blank praised Wurzener’s new owners. “With the takeover Wurzener baked goods will be in highly experienced and competent hands. Griesson is one of the leading companies in the national and European confectionery and baked goods market.”
