German dairy giant DMK is to invest in increasing the production capacity of its Humana baby food business – but the division will see sales and marketing jobs head to the company’s head office.

DMK is to spend EUR5m on capacity at its Humana production site in Herford in central Germany. The move will safeguard the future of the plant, where 513 staff are located.

“Baby food is, particularly in the context of our internationalisation plans, a strategically very important line of business for DMK,” CEO Dr. Josef Schwaiger said. “We expect sales to increase and, therefore, production should be strengthened at the site.”

However, DMK has decided to transfer some management, sales, marketing and logistics roles from Herford north to Bremen, where it is has its headquarters. The switch will affect 40 to 50 employees, it said.

Stefan Eckert, CEO of the Humana division, said: “In Bremen, we are much more accessible to business partners and colleagues. Also synergies wil come from the proximity to colleagues in Bremen, which will make us more efficient and more powerful. Therefore, the move is to Bremen an important step in our expansion strategy.”
