German chocolate maker Halloren has acquired a 50% stake in Belgian private-label chocolate manufacturer Bouchard Daskalidès.

Halloren said the deal, signed this week, will help it increase its international presence further, particularly in North America and Asia. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

“In Halloren we have found an ideal strategic partner that shines through constant innovation and is on a dynamic growth path, both at a production level as well as in the distribution channels,” said Bouchard owner Philippe van de Vyvere.

Ghent-based Bouchard, founded in 1987, produces premium confectionery and has an annual turnover of around EUR18m (US$30m). It employs around 70 staff and exports to over 50 countries. While it is primarily a private-label producer, it also has a Bouchard brand that sells speciality chocolates and Neapolitans to companies and catering firms.
