German retailer Metro Group has confirmed it is to cut 200 jobs in the company’s logistics unit.
The job cuts will take place across the group’s nine German distribution centres and follow the company’s sale of its Extra stores to local rival Rewe in March, a spokesperson for the retailer told just-food today (12 November).
“We have sold Extra and now we have to now make adjustments to our logistics unit,” the spokesperson said
“I cannot say if there are any plans for further job cuts but I don’t think so.”
The company said the job cuts were “ongoing” and declined to give a figure on how much Metro will save with the move.
