Nestle has opened a new infant formula production facility in Germany, extending its hypoallergenic (HA) baby formula production capacity.

The EUR117m (US$166.7m) facility, located in Biessenhofen, will double production of Nestle’s HA formula and will manufacture brands including Nestle Alete and Beba.

Nandu Nandkishore, deputy executive vice president and head of Nestlé Nutrition, said that the move marked a “key milestone” in the company’s investment in Germany and the development of its nutrition business.

“We can meet growing consumer demand for products with tangible health benefits in over 80 countries across the world; while playing a vital role converting our innovative research into state-of-the-art production, and giving Nestle Nutrition a competitive advantage in the market-place,” he commented at the opening ceremony last week (31 March).

The Biessenhofen factory, one of three Nestle factories worldwide producing HA infant formula, also produces products such as infant cereals, infant specialities, healthcare products for adults under the brands Alete, Sinlac, and Clinutren, as well as Thomy and Nescafé Xpress products. The factory exports to over 80 countries and employs around 640 people, Nestle said.
