The CEO of Rewe Group’s Penny chain has stepped down from his role due to a difference of opinion on the chain’s future strategy.

Rewe’s management board announced Armin Rehberg’s resignation today (15 October). In a statement, the board said Rehberg had “different views regarding the future strategy of Penny, especially in Germany”.

Manfred Esser, a member of the Rewe management board, will take on the role in the interim, in addition to his existing responsibilities.

In addition to Rehberg’s departure, the firm announced that Folker Gussek, previously responsible for sales management for Penny’s international arm, has asked to be relieved of his duties and will leave the company.
