German retail group Rewe is looking to accelerate investment in its domestic online grocery service this year.
A spokesperson for the retailer told just-food that Rewe will start its online grocery delivery service in Munich in early summer. The company currently operates the service from Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.

In addition, the spokesperson confirmed Rewe will be investing in a “startup incubator” as part of that plan. These are programmes designed to support the development of entrepreneurial companies.
CEO Alain Caparros told Germany’s WirtschaftsWoche publication this week: “We want to build a kind of incubator for start-up companies within the coming months and will invest in young online businesses.”
The spokesperson said: “This shows that we are engaged with this [online] subject, but are not yet at a point where we can answer more detailed questions.”
The spokesperson did not comment on how much investment will be made in the scheme.
