Unica has strengthened its supermarket division in the region of Piemont during the course of 30 years, with the owners managing to become the market leader in their region with 18 Uni supermarkets, 600 employees and a turnover of EU130m (US$192m).
“Following the successful restructuring of the tradition-rich trade chain company Standa, which was acquired in 2001, as well as the integration of our Billa supermarkets, we continue our expansion on the Italian market with this takeover,” said Alain Caparros, Rewe’s CEO, in Cologne.
Italy is Rewe’s second-largest foreign market after Austria.
