German retail giant Rewe plans to expand its Temma organic and natural “bio supermarket” format in city centres throughout the country.

A spokesperson for the group told just-food today (22 May) Rewe plans to expand the upmarket format in “regions with a high level of purchasing power”.

“The area for expansion will be North Rhine Westfalia (Cologne, Bonn, Duesseldorf, Essen, etcetera), Rhine-Main-Area (Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz etcetera) and Hamburg,” the spokesperson revealed.

Rewe has three Temma stores in Germany – two in Cologne and one in Dusseldorf. It is seeking sites with selling space of 450-850 square metres to open Temma stores. Details of Rewe’s planned capital expenditure and the number of stores targeted were not revealed.

According to its website, Temma aims to provide a “more natural, more pleasur[able] and more personal” shopping experience.
