Retail giant Aldi is accelerating its expansion in the US in 2008 with plans to enter the states of Rhode Island and Florida.

The German-based group, which runs almost 900 stores in the US, is looking to open around 100 outlets next year.
A spokesperson for Aldi’s business in the US said the discount retailer usually opens between 20 and 40 stores in the country a year.
“With food inflation this year and with recession looming in the US, the prospect of lower food bills at Aldi is very significant for consumers,” the spokesperson told just-food today (14 December).
“Our prices are around 50% lower than a traditional US supermarket and consumers are definitely choosing Aldi for that reason.”
