DMK, the German dairy major building its ice-cream business, has struck another licensing deal with a brand owner operating in a different category.

The co-op, Germany’s largest dairy business by annual sales, has added Katjes Fassin, one of the country’s biggest confectioners, to its list of licence partners.

In March, DMK will launch a frozen item under Katjes Fassin’s powdered-beverage brand Ahoj-Brause.

“We want to build on our positive momentum in the ice cream sector from the previous year. In 2020, DMK will therefore continue to focus on consistently developing and expanding a profitable brand business – one which already accounts for 15% of its total sales. The aim is to also optimise processes and significantly increase distribution,” Marcus-Dominic Hauck, the COO of DMK’s ice-cream business, said.

DMK would not disclose its 2019 sales when approached by just-food.

The company, meanwhile, also plans to launch more ice-cream products under its flagship dairy brand Milram and under the spirits brand Baileys, owned by Diageo.

The principal market in which DMK’s ice-cream business operates is Germany but a spokesperson added: “Our main country is Germany. We are in constant talks with our business partners. Thus we are already distributing to selected European countries and are evaluating further options.”

The co-op has three plants manufacturing ice-cream products in Germany – in Waldfeucht-Haaren close to the Dutch border, further north in Everswinkel and in Prenzlau near the Polish border.
