The group said it is looking to capitalise on demand for “high quality” whey products.

It will add whey protein isolate production at Gooding and introduce lactoferrin production at Twin Falls. Glanbia will expand drying capacity at Twin Falls to cater for production from that site and from Gooding. It also plans a centre of excellence for the in-house blending and agglomeration of high-end nutritional products.

“This expansion is strongly aligned with our strategy of adding further value to our whey stream,” said Daragh Maccabee, EVP and CFO of the company’s Glanbia Foods arm. “The company considered various options and locations for these new activities but ultimately came to the conclusion that Idaho was the right location.”

The new facilities are expected to be up and running by 2016.
