Good Planet Foods, a US-based dairy-free cheese maker, has secured US$12m in funding from a consortium of investors to support its growth.

The Series A funding round into the Bellevue, Washington-based firm was led by Cleveland Avenue and was joined by GreatPoint Ventures, Tasseo Consumer, Stray Dog Capital and Lever VC.

Good Planet Foods plant-based cheeses include mozzarella, parmesan and cheddar supplied to the retail and foodservice channels, and are made from coconut oil and plant starches. They are also non-GMO, vegan, kosher and halal certified.

Founder and chief executive David Israel said: “Our mission continues to be developing great tasting cheeses that are good for you and good for the planet. We are gaining significant momentum and will continue to play a significant role in increasing awareness of the plant-based foods category. By partnering with these strategic investors, we’ll be able to move forward more aggressively with additional focus on product development, sales and marketing.” 

The ‘cheeses’ are also free from allergens such as gluten, nuts, soy, eggs and wheat.
