Bakery major Grupo Bimbo has named Alejandro Rodríguez Bas as its new CEO to replace Rafael Pamias Romero, who has resigned.
In a statement yesterday (6 November), the Mexico-based company said Romero had “decided to take a pause to address personal and health matters”.

Rodríguez Bas joined the bakery group in 2021 and is currently president of Grupo Bimbo’s Barcel Global snacks division and a member of the executive committee.
Before joining Grupo Bimbo he was at PepsiCo, where he worked as CEO for Australia and New Zealand among other markets. Rodríguez Bas has also previously occupied the CEO seats at Grupo Lala in Mexico and Acosta.
Daniel Servitje, executive chair of Grupo Bimbo, said Rodríguez Bas has “built a results-driven career, with solid commercial and operational experience, and a proven track record of driving growth in iconic consumer brands”.
He added: “Over the past four years, he has been key in accelerating innovation, expanding the Barcel brand to many countries, and establishing manufacturing operations on different continents.”

By GlobalDataCommenting on his appointment, Rodríguez Bas said: “We will continue driving growth through powerful brands with enormous potential, reaching every corner of the world, with a constant focus on our associates, clients and consumers.”
Grupo Bimbo, which reported sales of 408.3bn pesos ($22bn) in 2024, describes itself as the world’s largest baking company. It has a global presence, with operations in 91 countries.
Key categories include sliced and artisan breads, buns and rolls, and pastries and cakes. Major brands feature Bimbo, Oroweat and Marinela.
The company reported its third-quarter results in October. Net sales were 107.4bn pesos, up 1.2% from a year earlier.
Operating income edged up 0.4% to 9.4bn pesos, while adjusted EBITDA increased 0.8% to 15.8bn pesos. Net majority income declined 9% to 3.3bn pesos.
In 2024, Grupo Bimbo’s operating income fell 6.5% to 33.1bn pesos, while adjusted EBITDA climbed 1% to 55.4bn pesos. Net majority income decreased 18.9% to 12.5bn pesos.
