The range is grown using no pesticides or harmful chemicals. It has already launched in India.

Amira chairman and CEO Karan Chanana said: “For 100 years and across four generations of the family business, we have been supporting India’s traditional farming communities. By venturing into the organic food business, we are further strengthening our commitment and responsibility towards consumers, farmers and the environment.”

The UAE-based group focuses on rice products and ethnic snacks but is looking to expand its range. In November, Amira told just-food it had started a trial launch of an organic chocolate range in some of its markets.

Speaking to just-food on the sidelines of Gulfood, Chanana said the chocolate had been well received but insisted it was still too early to comment specifically on Amira’s plans for the product.
