An event jointly organised by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the 25-28 February Pan-European Conference on Food Safety and Quality is also co-sponsored by the European Community and some FAO/WHO member countries.

Delegates will include representatives of governments, industry and consumer organisations.

Proposals that will be discussed include increased transparency within the chain of food production, the need of Eastern European countries to upgrade their food surveillance systems, control and legislation, and the expansion of a Rapid Alert System outside the EU for food scares.
