The retail price of Hungarian pork is set to rise by at least 10% in September, as processors say they can no longer absorb increasing costs of production and must end the self-imposed price freeze, revealed Ferenc Janko, president of the Hungarian Meat Product Council.

Pork is the most popular meat in Hungary, and the price of the commodity is important because it affects the economy’s inflation.


At a news conference, Laszlo Zadori, secretary of the Hungarian Animals for Slaughter Council, said: “Producer prices have continued to rise throughout the summer and now the meat industry can no longer absorb these costs. We must lift the price freeze we imposed in June.”
