FrieslandCampina has opened a new facility at its soon-to-be only plant in Hungary as the dairy group works on revamping its network in the country.

The new unit at the site in Mateszalka in north-east Hungary will produce Mia desserts and Milli cream.

The move comes with FrieslandCampina set to close its plant 74km south-west in Debrecen. FrieslandCampina said in late 2012 it would shut the Debrecen site, restructure its logistics operation and expand the Mateszalka plant.

A spokesperson told just-food the moves are to be made to “ensure the sustainability and continued growth of its branded business”.

Other products made at the Debrecen plant will not be transferred to Mateszalka but will be “outsourced”, the spokesperson added.
