The competition watchdog, GVH, handed down a fine of some HUF100m (US$556,580) for not breaching laws surrounding advertising and promotions.
In January 2007, Tesco, which has some 101 stores in the country, introduced a promotion of selected products in-store but failed to ensure the lines were in stock in sufficient quantities.
A spokesperson for Tesco in the UK told just-food the retail giant accepted the fine and said the misdemeanour was an “isolated incident”.
