The 20,000m² facility is situated in Herceghalom, and cost HUF5-6bn (US$20-24m) to build. It will operate as the central dry goods distribution base for all 23 Tesco stores in Hungary, taking over from leased storage space in Budapest.

General manager Gabor Horvath explained that Tesco suppliers would be charged a logistics contribution for using the centre in a bid to cover at least 20% of operating costs.

Tesco entered the Hungarian market in 1994, and currently employs over 10,000 people in the country.
