The range will be available at 40 stores across the city and the company plans to introduce a series of frozen products nationwide this year.


Kamlesh Gupta, chairman of Alliance arm Aqua Alliance, said: “We are aiming at making prawn eating a culture in India, by changing the conventional perception about fresh seafood and breaking the myths about the hygiene, health and convenience.


Seafood is a big export earner for India; exports of fresh-water prawns to the US, Japan and the EU generate US$800m in revenues each year.


However, demand for seafood is only just beginning to gain momentum domestically.
