Indian biscuit maker Britannia Industries has posted a rise in first-quarter net profit to Rs286m (US$6.2m), compared to Rs187m a year earlier.

Total income for the first quarter to 30 June was Rs3.46bn, compared with Rs3.12bn in the year-ago period.
The company, which is 39% owned by French dairy group Danone, has a 38% share of the Indian biscuit market.
