Indian food group Britannia Industries has started its financial year with a quarter of higher sales and earnings.

Net profit increased 32% to INR1.08bn (US$17.7m) in the three months to the end of June. Profit from operations was up 24% at INR1.33bn.

The increase in profits was in part due to a rise in revenue during the quarter. Net sales were up 15% at INR16.18bn.

MD Varun Berry said: “Our results are a reflection of our focus on driving consumer off-take and leveraging fundamental levers of operations to generate sustainable and profitable growth.”
