The Indian arm of UK confectionery giant Cadbury has said samples of chocolate from its factories in the western Indian state of Maharashtra have been found free of any infestation after state health officials said earlier this week that they found insects in the company’s Dairy Milk chocolate at a retail outlet in Bombay.

“We have checked all samples of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate at the factory and have found them to be of good quality and free of any traces of infestation,” Cadbury India sales and markets director Vidyut Arte was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Following media reports earlier in the week that insects were found in Dairy Milk chocolate sold at a suburban Bombay store, Cadbury said the infestation was more likely to have been caused by storage conditions at the retail outlet rather than by any infestation at its factories.
