India’s cashew exports fell 19% in value from US$240m to US$191m, and 10% in quantity terms from 40695 tonnes to 36510 tonnes between April-August 2000 vis-à-vis the same period last year. Price realisation average too, fell badly by 9 % from US$266 / tonne to US$241 / tonne. This was announced by the Cashewnut Export Promotion Council.
India is the world’s largest grower, processor and exporter of Cashew. About 700,000 hectares are used to cultivate cashew.
