Cashew nuts are officially the second best high-value-earning commodity in India. Following two years of industry restructuring, the nuts have recorded a new high in export value, with 92.461 tonnes earning 24.52bn rupees.
P. Bharathan Pillai, chairman of the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India, explained how the industry had made several efficiency and quality changes since 1998, upgrading processing procedures, packaging and adopting the guidelines of the International Standards Office.
