Danone and Yakult have confirmed that they are looking for possible distribution synergies in India through a test in Pune city.

Yakult Danone India, a joint venture between the Japanese and French dairy groups, was formed in 2005 to manufacture and sell Yakult in India. Danone, meanwhile, holds a 20% stake in the whole of Yakult.

A Yakult Danone India spokesperson told just-food today (12 July): “Since both companies are setting up their own cold distribution systems, a project has been initiated in Pune to explore whether distributing together brings in synergies. This project is being carried out in Pune city for retail distribution only.”

Danone has been working to extend its presence in India, announcing plans last week to launch its yoghurt range in Bangalore.
